Luxury destination wedding makeup: Rachel & John's elegant Mallorca wedding

All weddings are incredibly exciting - but there's an added layer of excitement to destination weddings: travelling somewhere beautiful, meeting suppliers from across Europe, and knowing you're about to help create memories in breathtaking locations.

Rachel and John's wedding at the stunning Finca Comassema venue in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, delivered all that and more.

Nestled in the secluded mountain village of Orient, Finca Comassema is a centuries-old estate set within the spectacular Tramuntana mountain range. From the elegant central courtyard (the clastra) to the peaceful pool terrace and gardens where the wedding breakfast takes place, every corner is so luxurious.

Rachel and John embraced that understated luxury fully. Their styling was chic and minimal, with crisp white florals and subtle nods to the television series Friends, adding touches of personality without taking away from the elegance of the day.

In a destination that had personal meaning to them, where they have often visited as a couple, they were the main event.

A few days to settle into Mallorca

I travelled to Mallorca with international hairstylist Sally-Kate (@hair_by_duboux, AKA Sal), giving us time to settle in before the celebrations began.

Like any destination wedding, arriving early is invaluable. We checked into our accommodation, unpacked our kits and, naturally, took the opportunity to enjoy a little sunshine. We spent an afternoon sitting on the balcony with an Aperol in hand and our books... although the Mediterranean heat had other ideas! It was so warm that the glue in my book actually melted, leaving pages falling out one by one.

We also made time to wander through the beautiful streets of Palma Old Town, discovering hidden corners of the city, stopping (of course) in Sephora to browse new makeup launches, before finding a gorgeous rooftop bar to relax ahead of the wedding. An early night followed, giving us plenty of time to organise our hair and makeup kits and prepare for the busy day ahead.

Why experience matters for destination wedding makeup

One of the biggest differences between a UK wedding and a destination wedding is the climate (although, saying that, British summer heatwaves are starting to become the norm!)

When temperatures climb into the mid-30s, alongside humidity and strong sunshine, bridal makeup needs to work much harder. It's not just about applying long-wearing products - I wish it were that simple. It's also about understanding how skin behaves in the heat, how different formulas perform, and how to build makeup in lightweight layers that remain fresh throughout the day without feeling too heavy.

As an experienced destination bridal makeup artist, I adapt every application to suit the environment. Careful skin preparation, strategic layering of creams and powders, and professional setting techniques all help create makeup that photographs beautifully from morning until late into the evening. And, of course, I'm there throughout the day for any touch-ups, giving my brides complete peace of mind.

A wedding morning overlooking Mallorca

The wedding morning began at Rachel's hotel, where we were treated to beautiful views across the city.

Rachel and her bridesmaids

Hair and makeup got underway early, and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. I created makeup for Rachel, her three bridesmaids and her mum, with everyone opting for glowing skin and minimal, timeless makeup.

The bridesmaids were wonderfully laid back and trusted me to tailor each look to suit their individual features, with all of them choosing a beautiful winged eyeliner that complemented their own style.

The bride's makeup

Rachel's skin type is oily/problematic, which can present a challenge especially with wedding and travel stress, combined with hot weather and aircon. However, she had been having hydrafacials and microneedling to improve her skin on the lead up to her big day. This makes a huge impact to the quality and consistency of the complexion!

As a result, with her minimalistic, modern and bronzed makeup look - complete with a pop of pink on her cheeks - she looked every ounce the classic, glowing bride.

Meanwhile, Sal worked her magic on Rachel's hair, carefully pin-curling every section before creating an elegant half-up style. The hair was then expertly pinned and secured ready for the 40-minute journey to the venue, where the final finishing touches would be completed before Rachel stepped into her dress.

The finishing touches at Finca Comassema

Once we arrived at Finca Comassema, everything started to come together.

It was time for those final details: perfecting Rachel's hair, helping her into her dress and veil, and making sure every element looked exactly as it should before bridal portraits and one of my favourite moments of every wedding day, the bridal reveal.

Seeing the bridesmaids' reactions never gets old.

The rich chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses worked beautifully against the white florals and neutral styling, creating a sophisticated colour palette that suited the venue perfectly.

Rachel herself looked effortlessly elegant. Her soft, glowing makeup complemented her minimalist gown without competing with it, while the lace veil added just the right amount of romance.

Makeup designed for Mediterranean temperatures

The wedding day reached around 34°C, so choosing the right products was absolutely essential.

For Rachel's complexion, I relied on one of my trusted favourites, Dior Face & Body Foundation, which offers beautiful, natural-looking coverage while performing exceptionally well in warm weather. I built the skin using carefully layered cream and powder products to create longevity without heaviness, before locking everything into place with Kryolan Fixing Spray.

The result was fresh, radiant skin that stayed looking polished throughout the celebrations, despite the intense Mediterranean sunshine.

A beautiful Mallorca destination wedding I'll never forget

Destination weddings always hold a special place in my heart. There's something incredibly rewarding about travelling somewhere extraordinary, working alongside talented creatives, and helping brides feel completely confident in unfamiliar surroundings.
